MEGENBIER RESUMES PURSUIT OF VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI TITLE AT ROAD AMERICA
Illinois teenager set to extend championship lead at famed Wisconsin road course

ELKHART LAKE, WIS. (August 12, 2009) -- Timmy Megenbier returns to the cockpit of a Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup car this coming weekend (August 14-15), with Round Six taking place at Road America. The talented young American travels to the famed Wisconsin road course not only as one of those expected to challenge for top honors, but the race pilot everyone is chasing in the point standings entering the second half of the 2009 season.

Megenbier recently enjoyed a successful debut in the highly competitive German-based Volkswagen Polo Cup -- the reward for leading the Volkswagen TDI Jetta Cup at the midway point of the season -- and will returns to the cockpit of his No. 17 Chicagoland VW.com/Caputo Foods VW poised to regain his winning ways at Road America. While the single-race event will mark the first time the VW Jetta Cup cars take to the high-speed 4.0-mile road course, the 18 year-old Megenbier has previous race experience and success at Road America to fall back on. The two-time series race winner scored a podium finish -- second place -- in the 2006 during a Skip Barber National doubleheader, and has three top-10 finishes in the open-wheel series at Road America. Given these results, combined with his success at the Virginia International Raceway (third) and Miller Motorsports Park (first) high-speed tracks in the opening half of the season, it is not out of the question Megenbier could add to his 2009 wins total, and extend his 24-point lead in the championship standings.

"I'm really looking forward to running my TDI Cup car on one of my favorite tracks in the world." Stated Megenbier. "It will also be great to run with the ALMS Series because they draw so many spectators. This weekend is back to the office to continue the streak of podiums. In the end this is what will win a championship."

The on-track action for Megenbier and the rest of the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup competitors gets underway at Road America on Friday (August 14), with a 30-minute practice session. The grid for Round Six will be set on Saturday morning (August 15) via a 30-minute qualifying session, with the green flag scheduled to wave at 7:00 p.m. local time.
