Michael DeNino Racing - 2009 Season Update

After months of hard work, I was unable to secure the funding necessary to compete in the 2009 SCCA PRo Racing Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup. With the 2009 season already well underway I've shifted my focus to designing a program that will provide the opportunity to compete in the 2010 racing season. While I do not currently have any plans to race cars in 2009, I will still be extremely busy.

I have been heavily involved in mountain biking for the last seven years and started road biking about ten months ago. I have already competed in five road bike races this this season with great success and have a plans for a full season of both road and mountain bike racing.

I am extremely fortunate to have a strong network of very talented individuals supporting me. I am very grateful to have support from Kevin Maselka of Elite Cycles, the largest Blue Competition Cycles dealer in the world, The Barnes Family and Barnes Paving, and Corey Beaman of oneighturbo.com. Their continued support is greatly appreciated.

My goal for 2009 is to compete in the Shenandoah 100 on September 6th. The Shenandoah 100 is a 100 mile solo mountain bike race which starts and finishes in Harrisonburg Virginia. While this is an exceptionally difficult race, I am confident that with the proper preparation, support from sponsors and my years cycling experience I will be able to be competitive in the race.

I will be competing in numerous road bike races throughout the year in addition to mountain bike sprint and endurance races. I will be working to defend my victory in the 12 hours of Cranky Monkey mountain bike relay at Quantico Marine Base on June 27th with teammates Mike Simon and Mike Macek. Mike Simon and I will also be competing in the 24 Hours of Big Bear mountain bike relay having teamed up with pro race drivers Craig Stanton and Andy Lally. The 24 Hours of Big Bear takes place in Hazelton West Virginia, June 13-14. I am especially excited to be competing in these races with such great teammates. In addition to the three races I have just mentioned, I plan on competing in an array of road and mountain events throughout the year on a weekly basis.

While bike racing does not take nearly as much money to compete in as auto racing, it is still an expensive sport. The cost of equipment is high and there is a tremendous time commitment required to train. That, combined with the cost of entering races, maintaining equipment and other racing related expenses creates the need for the support of sponsors. The competition in various events throughout the year is necessary to raise my fitness and experience to the level required to successfully complete the Shenandoah 100. If interested in becoming involved please contact me for details and information as to how your investment will benefit you.

While this competition is different than what I have been focusing on for the last seven years, it is just part of the journey and will make me a better driver when I return behind the wheel. My life focus does remain on my auto racing career.

A calender of cycling events has been added to my website and will be updated with additional events as I am able to commit to them. I will continue to update my website throughout the year with information concerning my cycling competition and progress in my auto racing career.
