DIAZ, GOODYEAR BIG WINNERS IN TRANS AM RACE AT HPT

TOPEKA, Kan. (Oct. 8, 2006) -- Goodyear's participation in the Sports Car Club of America National Championship Runoffs got off to an excellent start Sunday when Jorge Diaz Jr. won the 25-lap Trans Am race at Heartland Park Topeka.

Diaz, driving a Jaguar, led a Goodyear sweep of the top five finishing positions. The Trans Am event is not part of the Runoffs, but several competitors here to race in the SCCA's GT1 class took the opportunity to join the Trans Am field.

Goodyear is the winningest tiremaker in Runoffs history.

Paul Gentilozzi finished second, followed by Phillip Simms, Amy Ruman and Mike Canney. Gentilozzi and Simms drove Jaguars. Roman and Canney drove Chevrolets.

The practice and qualifying for the Runoffs continue through Thursday. Friday will be the first of three days of championship racing as 25 classes will race to determine their 2006 champion.
