Atlanta ProSolo To Use Doublecross Format
ATLANTA, Ga. (May 30, 2007) -- The 2007 TireRack® SCCA ProSolo season continues to explore new ground with the adoption of the Doublecross Challenge format at the Atlanta ProSolo.
A hybrid between the traditional side-by-side ProSolo format and the recently introduced single-course format, the Atlanta Region's Doublecross Challenge will pit soloists head-to-head on a single course. Competitors do not cross paths on the course since they start from opposite points and use separate, adjacent straights. Beginning with a Christmas tree start, whichever car returns to their finish line first, wins. The Doublecross course design enables drivers and spectators to immediately know who won the contest.
Competitors will make qualifying runs on Saturday, receiving three runs on the right side and three runs on the left side. The best time from each side will be averaged to determine a class rank. The top time in each class will be used for dial-ins in the elimination rounds, which will take place on Sunday.
Last year's inaugural Atlanta Doublecross event received rave reviews from SCCA Soloists and competitors are already responding positively to the use of the new format on the ProSolo calendar.
The Atlanta Region has launched a website dedicated to the event (www.soloatlanta.com/DoubleX/index.htm) complete with video, discussion board and online registration that will open for the first 100 entries on June 4th, followed by an additional 100 entries on June 5th.
The Atlanta Round of The Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo National Series is scheduled for June 30th.
