Texas-sized Weekend on Tap for Tire Rack SCCA Soloists in Houston

TOPEKA, Kan. (April 21, 2006) -- It has been said that everything is just a little bit bigger in Texas. With that in mind, many competitors in this weekend's Tire Rack® SCCA Solo National Tour event at Gulf Greyhound Park in Houston hope to take a larger than normal step toward building positive momentum for September's Tire Rack® SCCA Solo National Championships.

A solid group of drivers in G Stock will be among those looking for some mid-season momentum as former Solo Nationals Champions G.H. Sharp, of Kernersville, N.C. (Mini of Charleston/Miniusa.com 2005 Mini Cooper S), Robert Carpenter, of Knoxville, Tenn. (2001 Toyota Celica), and Beth McClure-Strelnieks, of Austin, Texas (Jungle Cat Racing/www.lonestarcraft.com 2005 Mini Cooper S), take on each other and the rest of the GS field. Other familiar names such as Jeff Jacobs, of Philadelphia, Pa. (co-driving his Mini with Sharp), and Su Brude, of Frisco, Texas (Liquid Yellow Lemmings 2005 Mini Cooper S), are also ones to watch in GS this weekend.

Gerry Terranova, Jr., of Allen, Texas (Kumho/intercrew/Evolution 1989 Honda Civic Si) will battle on of his home state's own in H Stock, where reigning HS National Champion and local driver Karter Bollmann, of Houston (2005 Mini Cooper), is going after his first National Tour class victory of the season.

One thing is for certain in Street Touring Stock 2, and it is that a Mazda Miata or a Honda CRX is going to win the class. Who pilots the winning ride, however, is a much murkier picture. Robert Seelig, of Edmond, Okla., the class' reigning National Champion, is entered and will be a force to reckon with in his Kumho/Redline/Carbotech/Prothane/izoomgraphics.com 1989 Honda CRX. Seelig's wife, Michelle, the current National Champion in STS2L, will co-drive. Another husband-and-wife duo will also be in contention in STS2 as Andy and Ann Hollis, of Austin, Texas, co-drive their Soulspeed/ART/GRM 1992 Mazda Miata. And if it isn't either one of those two drivers putting a Miata on top, it could also be Sierra Pedroza, of Round Rock, Texas (1999 Mazda Miata), or Jason McDaniel, of Houston (1991 Mazda Miata).

In Street Touring Ultra, three different makes could finish in the top spot. Adam Faust, of Longmont, Colo., will pilot OMAC Packing/Faust Consulting/Vorshlag.com 2006 Mazda RX-8. Terry Fair, of Plano, Texas, will counter with his Vorshlag Motorsports 1997 BMW M3, and Burak Tuglu, of Rockville, Md., will attempt to beat both of those entries with his RaCincorp/BTM-Sport 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi.

The first of five heats is scheduled to begin Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m. Second-day activities start at 8 a.m. Sunday with an awards presentation following the completion of the last heat.
