SEAN RAYHALL FORMULA ENTERPRISES PRO DEBUT
"Rayhall in search of more records"
Atlanta, GA (April 15, 2010) - Sean Rayhall raced in the inaugural Formula Enterprise Pro Series event at Road Atlanta this past weekend, racing with Athens, GA based Comprent Motorsports. Sean dominated all four practice rounds on Friday topping all of the time sheets. On Saturday morning, Sean once again led the practice round by over 4/10's. In Saturday's qualifier, Sean went P1 and set a new track record with a 1.24.354 and an average speed of over 108 mph.
Sean started on pole and continued the race by setting lap times consistent with what he had been running. By lap 8, Sean had a twelve-car lead when a mechanical issue caused his car to lose power. Sean managed the injured car which was down 30 mph on the straight-aways and nursed home a 4th place finish. Again, Sean set the fastest time in the race with a 1.24.823.
On Sunday, Sean was on his game, going P1 in practice with a 1.24.606. In Sunday's qualifier, Sean went out in four laps, posted a 1.24.597 and came into the pits to watch his competitors chase his time. By the end of the session Sean's time was still good enough for pole position by nearly half a second.
Starting from pole in Sunday's race Sean proceeded to leave the trailing group. By lap 16, Sean was 9.5 seconds in front, but Sean again had mechanical problems with the gearbox, lost all power and had to retire. In the 2nd race, as in the first, Sean started pole, led most laps and set the fastest time in both races.
The upside to the weekend was that Sean raced his Legends car at Lanier Speedway and won the feature from a last place starting position (Lanier rules for the winner from last week to start last). Sean also set the fastest lap. Currently, Sean is 6 starts at Lanier Speedway with 6 wins.
Sean set the following records this past weekend:
Youngest to be awarded a Pro License in SCCA at 15 years old
Youngest to race in a Pro SCCA race
Youngest to go P-1 in SCCA
Youngest to set a track record in SCCA
Sean will be racing in his first SCCA National race in the FE car this weekend, with hopes of becoming the youngest person in SCCA to win a National race.
Sean's schedule and goals for 2010 are to win the FE Pro Series, the June Sprints and the Runoffs for the National Championship. Sean will also be running the Tuesday Shootout in Charlotte, along with the Thursday Thunder at Atlanta Motor Speedway in a Legends car. Sean's record in Legends Cars is currently 16 races with ten wins, five 2nd's and one 4th.
