Tilbor Wins Second Straight SCCA Sportscar Championship Race
BOWMANVILLE, ONT., CAN. (May 21, 2004) - Neil Tilbor, New Smyrna, Fla., won Round Two of the SCCA Sportscar Championship, part of the Cooper Tires Championship Series, at Mosport International Raceway. Finishing second is Robert Mumm, of Hales Corner, Wisc.
Following qualifying earlier in the day, the first race of the SCCA Sportscar Championship doubleheader got under away mid-afternoon. Running in conjunction with the Formula SCCA Championship, the Sportscars started at the back of the field. Going side-by-side down the front-straight, Tilbor took the lead ahead of Mumm, who had started on pole. Making the most of a clean track, Tilbor, in the No. 8 Team Edge R/C SCCA Sportscar, steadily built a lead on Mumm. As the race progressed, Tilbor looked to be in comfortable position, steadily building his lead. Late in the race, Mumm began began to close on Tilbor, posting the fastest lap of the race. At the checkered flag, Tilbor had won his second consecutive race by a mere 0.273 second.
"I knew Bob [Mumm] was going to be quick at the end of the race," said Tilbor. "The car was great and I had fun out there. I'm looking forward to bigger fields, as more cars are delivered in North America."
