Mumm Wins First Career SCCA Sportscar Championship Race at Mosport

BOWMANVILLE, ONT., CAN. (May 22, 2004) -Robert Mumm, of Hales Corner, Wisc., won Round Three of the SCCA Sportscar Championship, part of the Cooper Tires Championship Series, at Mosport International Raceway. Finishing second is Neil Tilbor, of New Smyrna, Fla.

Starting at the back of the Formula SCCA field, Tilbor maintained the lead into turn one on a damp track. Looking for an opportunity to pass Mumm pressured Tilbor throughout the opening lap. As both drivers began to get heat into their Cooper Zeon Tires, the lap times began to drop. As the race progressed, Tilbor, in the No. 8 Team Edge R/C SCCA Sportscar, steadily built his lead. Having fallen back, Mumm once again began to close on Tilbor in the late stages of the race, posting his fastest laps. With less than two laps remaining, Tilbor pulled into the pits with a mechanical failure. At the checkered flag, Mum, in the No. 10 Autostuff Inc. SCCA Sportscar had won his first SCCA Championship race.

"Neil [Tilbor] went out on wet tires which at the start," said Mumm. "As the track dried I was able to close on him and have a great dice for the lead. It's great my first Sportscar win."
