Team NayKid Racing gears up for 40th Annual SCCA National Championship Valvoline Runoffs
LEXINGTON, Ohio - Sept. 15, 2003 -- After an extremely successful 2003 season, Team NayKid Racing will head to Ohio to compete at the 40th annual SCCA National Championship Valvoline Runoffs on Sept. 15-21. Cindi Lux will drive the No. 78 Kumho Tire/Redline Oil/Kodiak Racing Wheel Z06 Corvette sponsored by Suburban Chevrolet. Lux will be joined by her teammates Scotty B. White No. 3 and Rick Gilhart No 54.
The 2.25-mile Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is a favorite of the Team NayKid Racing trio. White in a dominate drive, won at the Buckeye National Race held at the circuit just three weeks ago and Gilhart who is from the Ohio area grew up racing at the course, finished in third.
"It's one of the more technical U.S. road courses, which myself, Rick and Cindi enjoy. Expanding to a three-car team has really helped our performance level this year. I have really enjoyed racing at Mid-Ohio over the past five years and I am really jazzed about going back for this years runoffs." White commented.
The Z06 Corvette squad hopes to end the seven days of racing action as one of them being crowned SCCA National Champion. Judging from their stellar season of racing, their sites are not set too high. Of the 13 races the team entered during the 2003 season, they walked away with11 wins, eight second place finishes, seven third place finishes, 11 pole positions, six track records and three 1-2-3 team sweeps on the podium.
Lux clinched the SCCA Northern Pacific Divisional Championship this year along with White winning the Southern Pacific Division Championship in the with Rick coming in a close second place.
Another indication on how strong this team has become in 2003, is the SPEED Channel has picked all three drivers on the team as part of their "Top-Six" picks to watch during the telecast. The team will also hold one of the SPEED Channel in-car cameras which will give the audience a taste of what the Team NayKid Racing drivers experience during a race.
Much of the success of the season is due to the strong sponsor support the team has received from Kumho Tire, Redline Oil, Kodiak Racing Wheel and Suburban Chevrolet. "Once again, Team NayKid has not let us down in 2003 in their performance. In fact, they are getting stronger with every race," said Rudy Consolacion, Motorsports Director for Kumho Tire Corporation. "It will be exciting to see this three-car team with Scotty B., Cindi and Rick making a strong championship run on the new Kumho Ecsta V700 at the 2003 Runoffs."
One of the things that Team NayKid is known for is their ability to have a tremendous amount of fun both on and off the racetrack. This philosophy also holds true with one of their sponsors, Suburban Chevrolet in Sandy Oregon. "With two NayKid guys chasing a NayKid girl around the track, there's no way they could lose! No wonder they're breaking track records wherever they go! By the time these guys get done in Ohio, everybody will want to get NayKid," said a spokesperson from Suburban Chevrolet.
The last time I went to the Runoffs was 10 years ago at Road Atlanta," said Lux. "This time around I have two incredible teammates, awesome sponsors and better equipment. This is going to be some serious excitement."
