May 7, 2001: The Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America announced today that fifty-one entrants had completed applications for the 3rd Annual 12 Hours at the Point Endurance Race to be held June 1-2, 2001 at Summit Point Raceway. Eight teams remain on the waiting list for the event, and should one of the entrants withdraw, will be allowed to enter. The fifty-eight intents filed with the Region set a record. Jeff Janoska, Assistant Regional Executive said, "The word is out that DC Region puts on a good, safe and fun endurance race and people want to participate."

The entrants come from twelve different SCCA Regions ranging from Arkansas Region in the west, Central Florida Region in the South, and New England Region in the North. Twenty-five entrants, all DC Region members, will have the home field advantage in the race.

The fifty-one-car field is spread across nine classes. The largest class is Improved Touring S with fourteen entrants. Spec Miata, added for the 2001 edition of the 12 Hours at the Point, is the second largest with eight entrants. The hands down favorite manufacturer for this year's competitors is Mazda. Twenty-one of the fifty competitors, more than forty percent, will be driving a Mazda of some vintage.
