SCCA kicks off 50th season this weekend at Infineon Raceway.

SONOMA, Calif. -- The San Francisco Region of the Sports Car Club of America will kick off its 50th campaign this weekend with the Inn Marin Season Opener at Infineon Raceway.

More than 280 competitors are expected for the full weekend of racing on the 12-turn, 2.52-mile road course. Gates open at 7 a.m. each day, with practice and qualifying beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Main events are scheduled to begin at 9:20 a.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.

One of the biggest groups will be the Spec Miata class, with more than 35 entrants expected. Mill Valley's Mike Courtney returns as the defending champion in the class. More than 25 entrants are expected in the Spec Racer Ford class, with Saratoga's Mike Smith the defending champion.

The San Francisco Region of the SCCA will run a 19-race schedule in 2003 split between Infineon Raceway, Thunderhill Park in Willows and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. For more information, visit www.sfrscca.org.
