Bill Braucksick is a Sports 2 driver in the car that won the Runoffs last year, a Doran. "It's a different driver and different motor, but the same car," he said. The engine is by J. Ivey now. "It's nice having Kevin Doran's shop a quarter mile down the road from mine. This car is extremely light weight and really strong."
He was one of the few S2 pilots to weather the rain today. "The whole purpose of qualifying today was to keep the car straight and learn where the rivers are." His strategy come race time? "Have fun. I don't care about winning, I just want to have fun. The car is faster than I am, but Tony Kester is working on that, convincing me I can do things."
He's not happy having the ShelCan's on the field with the S2's. "They ought to go in the nearest landfill. All the S2 drivers should take up a collection, refund their entry fees, and let them flip for the trophy." Brauckswick preps the car and does all the work himself. "I can't afford to have some 'Shelby Canned Ham' take me out."
As you've probably heard, Buck's restaurant burned down a few weeks ago. Well, they're back in business, sort of. They've set up a big tent and are serving a limited menu for all the racers. Your choices, I've been told, are steak and chicken, but I've also heard the food continues to be outstanding. We hope to go there Friday night. Tomorrow night is a special Mazda dinner at the Brown Derby Road House. Since several friends race the hummers, I'll be able to give you the news from there later.
I won't get these last two reports uploaded till tomorrow morning. Thank you for your patience.
