For 2nd Year, Mazdaspeed Motorsports Joins 12 Hours at the Point Contingency Program.

3 March 2003: The Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America and Mazdaspeed Motorsports announced today that Mazdaspeed Motorsports would be participating in the 5th Annual Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point as a contingency sponsor. The 5th Annual Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point will be held May 30-31, 2003 at Summit Point Raceway. The Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point, an endurance race for sports cars and sedans, is the longest perennial amateur endurance race in the U.S. and attracts competitors from across the U.S.

"Mazdaspeed Motorsports is a strong supporter of grassroots motorsports," said Steve Sanders of Mazdaspeed Motorsports. This will be the second consecutive year that Mazdaspeed Motorsports has participated in the 12 Hours at the Point. Sanders added, "Mazdaspeed Motorsports recognizes that performance and reliability demonstrated on the track showcases these qualities in out street cars."

"We are proud to again have Mazdaspeed Motorsports as a contingency sponsor," said Chuck Allard, DC Regional Executive. Allard went on to say that "The reliability of Mazda's is well-known among endurance racers and, in the 12 Hours at the Point, Mazda is the best represented among the major automobile manufacturers." The 2002 Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point saw a three-way, 12-hour battle for victory in the Spec Miata class and this year's edition of the race should see the same.

Mazdaspeed Motorsports' prize will be $400 for highest placing eligible car, $200 for second highest, $100 for third highest and $50 for the highest placing car that is not a Mazda Miata. The event, like all SCCA races at Summit Point is open to spectators and will take place rain or shine. More event information can be found at www.12hoursatthepoint.org
