(SAUKVILLE, WISCONSIN) Monday, May 26, 2003 -- Jamie Bach and the B-K Motorsports team could not have done much more in this weekend's SCCA National event at Blackhawk Farms Raceway. In Saturday's qualifying session, Bach put his #3 (Mazdaspeed, DELL Computers) Formula Mazda on the pole position (his third pole position of the season) nearly a full second ahead of Formula Mazda veteran, Bob Kaminsky. Track conditions during qualifying were not conducive to breaking the track record (1:08.8) Bach set a few weeks ago at the Northern Illinois track. That would change during the race, however.
Race day presented beautiful weather as Bach led the field down for the green flag. Bach won the race into turn one and never looked back, leading all 25 laps of the event for his first national win of the season...putting him into first place in the Central Division National Championship standings. Perhaps even more impressive than leading every lap was what Bach did on lap 24 of the race. When most drivers were taking it easy in order to make it to the finish, Bach turned in a flying lap of 1:08.7...breaking the overall track record he set a few weeks ago and setting a new race lap record. The final margin of victory over second place finisher Bob Kaminsky was over 10 seconds.
The flag-to-flag win was Bach's first of the season and 22nd in his Formula Mazda career (out of 40 races). He now holds the SCCA regular season track record at Blackhawk Farms Raceway, Brainerd International Raceway, Indianapolis Raceway Park, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and Nelson Ledges Raceway. In addition, Bach has sat on the pole in 23 out of 40 races entered since he started race in the Formula Mazda division in late 2000.
The next event for Bach and B-K will be next weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for an important SCCA National Points Championship event. The last time Bach visited Mid-Ohio, he came home the 2002 SCCA National Champion in Formula Mazda, so the team is searching for a repeat performance. Immediately after Mid-Ohio, the team will travel to the next round of the STAR MAZDA SERIES at MAZDA RACEWAY Laguna Seca. This event will be held during the Bridgestone presents the CHAMP CAR SERIES powered by FORD weekend June 13-15. All of the STAR MAZDA SERIES North American Championship events will be televised on SPEED Channel. A broadcast schedule will be available shortly.

"This was a great weekend and we are thrilled to get a win. We felt really good coming out of Nazareth with our first podium finish in the PRO series and we really wanted to come here to get a victory in SCCA competition. The car was fantastic during the race. I wanted to save the front tires a bit early in the race and just bring it home strong at the finish. I felt like those last few laps were going to be quick ones, but I did not know we got a track record until I was on my cool off lap. This is a great feeling going into Mid-Ohio. Obviously we are excited to head back there and see if we can repeat what we did at the RUNOFFS last year."
