Dresang Breaks Streak at Road America

Elkhart Lake, Wis. 4 September 2007 - After a string of three less-than-favorable finishes by UEMSI Motorwerks' longest tenured driver, Jacques Dresang finally snapped his three-year winless draught by taking top honors at the SCCA Chicago Region Kettle Moraine Regional at the Road America racing course on August 26.

Dresang and teammate Michael Argetsinger qualified first and second in the eleven-car Spec Miata class, mirroring the effort by the duo at the same event one-year previous.

At the start of the final, Dresang and Dan Schaut had a spirited battle for the top spot until Dresang managed to clear a mixed-class car in the infamous kink, leaving some bodywork and rubber in his wake. After that, the Plymouth, Wis. pilot managed to put together a string of fast laps to ensure his first win in a racecar, leading Schaut to the line by 5.215 sec.

"It was a great race for the UMW squad," Dresang said. "We definitely had the cars to beat, and it was a great way to finish off the season before the Runoffs in October. The Applied Racing Technologies engine was definitely the key to this win, as the extra power down the straights at the four-mile track made it a breeze late in the race. It was also great to have Michael do so well in our #57 car, he's a great racer and we're glad that he joined us again this season."

Argetsinger wound up sixth after being stuck behind the same car that Dresang had contact with, but was able to podium in the SM class the day previous with a third-place finish, narrowly beaten to the line by Martin Wiedenhoeft. The result was Argetsinger's best finish for the UMW crew, coming in his first start since his 2006 appearance for the UMW team.

The next stop for the UMW team will be at Heartland Park Topeka in Topeka, Kansas for the SCCA National Championship Runoffs on October 8-13, 2007. Both Jacques Dresang and Steve Welk will contest the event in hopes of claiming a national championship in the Spec Miata category.

The next event for the UMW Vintage team will be with Eagle #7225 at the inaugural Barrington Concours d'Elegance "Legends and Legacies" on Sept. 14-16, 2007 in Barrington, Illinois. The event will benefit the Barrington Hills Conservation Trust, Cowboy Dreams, and the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois. For more information about the event, visit www.barringtonconcours.org.

A week later, the Eagle will attend the Southeastern Wisconsin Short Track Hall of Fame inauguration on Sept. 22, 2007, where it will be among the vintage modifieds of Wisconsin's short track legends. The event will take place at the Wisconsin Automotive Museum, located in Hartford, Wisconsin. For more information, visit www.wisconsinautomuseum.com.
