Sunday, September 30, 2001 (Houston, Texas, USA): The Houston Region of the nation-wide racing organization, Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), is giving away several race car driving schools to new SCCA members who are lucky enough to have their names pulled from the tub of membership applications taken at the 2001 Houston Grand Prix.
The local chapter of the SCCA sponsors racing and car and race driving education at events around town and provides more than 300 volunteers and SCCA-licensed workers to the downtown race this weekend. The local chapter grows its membership about 20% each year at the Houston Grand Prix by offering many enticements for membership.
This year the club will be giving away race car driving schools at the Grand Sport Speedway with race cars provided by its members including Speedstar Racing. The club will also give away go-kart race driving schools courtesy of Davy Jone's KartZone. Other prizes include SCCA merchandise and gift certificates to online racing sites like hiperfuels.com. The prizes are for the lucky new members selected by the luck of the draw but every new member that signs up at the SCCA Membership Tent in the Vendor Midway will receive an SCCA NEW MEMBER BADGE, a daily newspaper for SCCA members-only, a Houston Region patch and decal, SCCA's SportsCar Magazine and discounts to local racing venues. Of course the biggest benefit to membership is seeing SCCA's club racing almost every weekend of the year at Texas race tracks like Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas.
How do you find the SCCA Membership Booth - well with over 300 volunteers on the ground at the Grand Prix it should not be hard to find one of their members - just look for their classic "all-white" uniforms and the letters, "SCCA" printed on their shirts.
