WEATHER DELAYS FORCE POSTPONEMENT OF OCTOBER ROAD COURSE TEST

TOPEKA, Kan. (Sept. 28, 2005) -- A wetter than normal month of August and early September has cancelled a test session for the soon-to-be repaved Heartland Park Topeka road course.

Originally scheduled for Oct. 21-23, the first chance for road racers to test on the new competition asphalt will have to wait until spring 2006.

"We were really hoping for the test weekend, but all the rain we've been getting has affected the paving schedule," said Raymond Irwin, Heartland Park Topeka owner. "Even if all the asphalt was in, the curbing and some other safety features would need to be installed, and there just isn't enough time to get everything completed in a safe, proper, and first class manner."

"Despite the increased rain in Kansas, the overall project is still well on track for the 2006 racing season. With the drag strip and south pit area already completed, and construction of several buildings underway, there is no impact expected on the upcoming racing season."

Heartland Park will still conduct drag races to round out the 2005 schedule. This weekend (Oct. 1-2) is the 16th Annual Mopar Super Weekend, and the bracket drag race schedule winds down with a two-day season finale on Oct. 15-16.

Heartland Park Topeka, a multi-purpose racing facility located in Topeka, Kan. annually hosts NHRA POWERade drag racing, Championship OFF-Road Racing (CORR), and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) in addition to many other events throughout the race season.
