Works Through Wretched Weather with Two Strong Finishes
Phoenix, Ariz. -- Star Mazda racer and 2004 Star Mazda Red Line Oil Championship rookie of the year Gabi DiCarlo raced her way through rainy weather to a second and third place victory at the Sports Car Club of America Arizona (SCCA) Regional and National Event at the Phoenix International Raceway in Phoenix, Ariz.
Gabi felt racing on this track was a great experience, as she will be back to Phoenix International Raceway next month for two more national races "Although the weather did not cooperate, the weekend was a success with two more podium finishes to add to the start of the season," said Gabi.
In the regional race on Saturday Gabi started in fourth place after a regional qualifying session. During the race Gabi managed to make it through the rain, which began in turn one and lead to a wreak that involved a number of cars. After the first turn Gabi was in second place. She led all 14 laps to finish in second place.
The rain continued into Sunday's national race where Gabi qualified first after the national qualifying session. She led the 22 lap race leading until a restart in the middle of the race. While leading the restart she spun in turn one and fell to the back of the race. Gabi worked her way back up to the front during the last laps of the race and finished in third place.
"My teammates, pit crew, Great Clips and Moses Smith Racing have all been very supportive and are a major contribution to the success we're experiencing. I thank them for their continued hard work and dedication to the team," added Gabi.
Since her first podium finish in May 2004 at the Buttonwillow Raceway, Gabi has consistently finished in the top three.
Gabi is enthusiastic about upcoming races and looks forward to returning to the Phoenix International Raceway next month.
