Cindi Lux and Team NayKid Racing announce 2003 racing plans.
Portland, Oregon -- The former ALMS Women's Global GT Series Champion, Cindi Lux, has joined efforts with Scotty B. White and his NayKid Racing team for a full schedule of SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) National races. They will travel the country from their native Portland, Oregon, across to Atlanta, Georgia, and back up to Vancouver, Canada, making many stops in between, for a total of 14 scheduled races during the upcoming 2003 season.
"I'm excited to be getting back to my roots and racing with a great team in SCCA," said Lux. "When I started racing in 1988, it was in the Southern California Region of the SCCA. Although I've raced professionally as well, it's always fun competing in the mainstay of U.S. racing - the SCCA."
Lux and former SCCA World Challenge drivers, Scotty B. White and Rick Gilhart, will be part of the three-car NayKid Racing Corvette team. Kumho Tire, Nike and Ohlins USA will sponsor their 2001 Z06 Chevrolet Corvettes.
"I'm thrilled to be bringing a personal endorsement from Nike to our 2003 racing effort," added Lux, a former Oregon SCCA Pro Driver of the Year recipient. "I have been associated with them for several years now and they are very interested in involvement with women athletes in different sports. In addition to the racing efforts, I will also make appearances, attend conferences and other roles on behalf of Nike's women global footwear efforts. They are a forward-thinking company and very interested in the input from their women athletes."
In addition to racing, Lux keeps her driving skills honed as an instructor and car manufacturer ride-and-drive facilitator.
"Cindi and I have been friends for many years and we've developed a good rapport. What I like best about Cindi is she doesn't give you lip service. What you see is what you get. She's very modest and very professional. I plan on learning a lot about the professional angle of racing," said Scotty B. White, owner/driver of NayKid Racing. "We've raced against each other a bit and wanted to do a program together. She's venturing out of the foreign cars and into the American V-8. We make a good tag team, as we have different strengths. It already feels like a real team, a good partnership. I'm jacked up about running the season with Cindi and Rick. They're great teammates, plus add the family support, and I'm really looking forward to it."
Scotty B. White is the first driver since 1987 to field a Corvette in SCCA stock class, where he set four track records on his way to a Divisional Championship and fourth-place finish at his inaugural SCCA Valvoline Runoffs championship race.
Scheduled SCCA National races for NayKid Racing for 2003 include: Jan. 16-20, Phoenix; Ariz.; Feb.22-23, Los Angeles, Calif.; March 8-9, Chandler, Ariz.; Mar. 29-30, Atlanta, Ga.; Apr. 26-27, Sacramento, Calif.; May 16-18, Seattle, Wash., June 12-15, Portland, Ore.; May 23-26, Seattle, Wash., July 11-13, San Francisco, Calif., July 25-27, Vancouver, B.C., Canada; Aug. 1-3, Monterey, Calif.; Aug. 30-31, Columbus, Ohio; Sept. 15-21, Columbus, Ohio.
Watch for Cindi, Scotty B. and Rick at the NayKid Racing team to give the SCCA Class T1 (Touring 1) competitors a good run for a championship bid in 2003.
