RENOWNED JUNE SPRINTS NEXT UP FOR CARTECH FM CHALLENGE DRIVERS
Road America plays host to Round Four of the respected regional championship
ELKHART LAKE, WIS. (June 17, 2009) -- The premier event on the Cartech FM Challenge series calendar takes place this weekend (June 20-21), with all the title contenders taking to the famed Road America road course in Wisconsin as part of the renowned SCCA Chicago Region June Sprints.
The fourth event of the six-race Cartech FM Challenge, the June Sprints will not only witness the top Formula Mazda drivers in the series doing battle against one another, but premier FM race pilots from across the nation involved in the on-track action. Expected to lead the charge for both top honors among the 10+ series drivers, as well as the overall FM win is Franklin Futrelle. The Georgia driver is the defending SCCA Formula Mazda National Champion, Cartech FM Challenge champion and defending June Sprints FM race winner, as well as the winner of two of the opening three races this season. Juan Marchand however enters the prestigious event as the hottest driver in series competition, having scored a superb win at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in late May. Jeremy Grenier and Bruce Lawrence are two more drivers capable of standing on the top step of the podium. Grenier is currently second in the championship fight, thanks to a pair of podium finishes in the opening three rounds, while Lawrence finished second in last year's June Sprints, and is third on the points charts. Add in the likes of series front-runners Curt Harrelson, Sam Lockwood, Dale Swope, Joe Garner, Guy Piptone, Jason Vinkmulder and Dale Vandenbush, and the stage is set for a thrilling encounter around the 4.0-mile road course in Wisconsin.
"The June Sprints is one race every Cartech FM Challenge driver wants to win," stated Cartech FM Challenge organizer Lawrence. "Given the layout of the track and the depth of talent running in the series this year, fans can expect to see plenty of passing and potentially a thrilling finish at Road America. I know I'm looking forward to racing!"
Round Four of the Cartech FM Challenge will feature a single practice session on Friday (June 20), followed by 25-minute qualifying sessions on both Saturday and Sunday morning. The green flag for the 13-lap race will take place on Sunday afternoon (June 20).
