Amputee Brett Smrz Scores Hat Trick at Laguna Seca

Brett Smrz of Coeur d' Alene Idaho made his return to Formula Car racing this past weekend at the SCCA San Francisco Formula Ford Festival Double Regional, held at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey California. The 16 year old who recently recovered from an off track injury which resulted in the amputation of his lower left leg, swept all the qualifying sessions as well as all three main events in the F1600 class. "I came here this weekend to get back behind the wheel and to have fun", explained Smrz. "I had no idea things would turn out this way. I can't thank the Porter Racing crew and Nosler Motorsports enough for all the hard work they put into the weekend".

Brett would like to thank Dr. Douglas G. Smith from the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle WA, Don Meng from Shindler Orthotic Service's in Spokane WA, and Brad Sharples from North Idaho Physical Therapy in Post Falls, ID. "All of the people mentioned played a great part in my recovery" stated Smrz.

Brett's next race will be in the RoboPong 200 Karting Endurance Race at the New Castle Indiana facility in mid October.
