KONI Champ keeps his foot in it after strong Daytona Test
(Homestead, FL) 15 January 07-- 2007 Grand-Am KONI Challenge ST Champion Adam Burrows found himself in a familiar situation this weekend as he strapped back into a Spec Racer in SCCA National competition for the first time since scoring the KONI Champions crown in 2007.
For Burrows, who has long raced with the crack Spec Racer outfit Motion Dynamics, it was a sweet homecoming as he scored a podium in both rounds of the double header event despite starting the first race from 15th, and the second event from 8th on the grid.
"It felt good to get back into a spec racer and have a little bit of fun down here," said Burrows, who set some impressive times in the Compass360 Racing Acura TSX during the Test Days despite never having taken to the track in a front-wheel drive machine. "I have a lot of friends on this team and in this paddock, so it was a fun weekend all around. Though it was a shame that Trevor couldn't make it down to Florida for a second weekend in a row...it would have been great to race against him again."
The Spec Racer event also brought back some fond Homestead memories for Burrows, who scored a debut podium finish with a fine runner-up result co-driving with Trevor Hopwood in KONI Competition this past March on their way to setting a KONI record for podium appearances during the 2007 season. The Homestead facility is clearly one that Burrows enjoys running on, as evidenced by him setting the fastest lap of the race on Sunday.
"It's too bad KONI won't be back here this season!" joked Burrows. "It was great to come back to the track where Trevor and I stepped into the podium for the first time. This is a great facility and the track makes for some entertaining racing, particularly with all of the drafting through NASCAR three and four. It's a shame we won't be here this year . . . I really enjoy it. But, we are going to be racing on some great tracks this year and we're looking forward to getting a good start to the season at Daytona next week."
Burrows and Hopwood will return to action in two weeks' time for the Fresh From Florida 200 on January 25th. Speed Channel broadcast date to be determined.
