May 14, 2002: A record number of entries have been accepted for the 4th Annual 12 Hours at the Point endurance race for sports cars and sedans. Fifty-five cars, the maximum allowed under SCCA regulations, will start the May 31 ^Ö June 1 event ^Ö four more than the previous record of fifty-one cars set last year. Four teams remain on the wait list and are hoping that one of the teams that have made the big show will withdraw.

^ÓThe response has been overwhelming,^Ô said Jeff Janoska, DC Region PR Liaison. Entrants from 16 states, including Texas, Tennessee, Florida and Wisconsin, are scheduled to race this year. Janoska added, ^ÓThe success of the 12 Hours at the Point is due to the hard work of the Region^Òs Competition Committee.^Ô Entrants include 2 past overall 12 Hours at the Point winners, 14 class winners and at least one reigning SCCA National champion.

According to Janoska, the Region is just now collecting biographical information on the drivers scheduled to compete. Initial information indicates that several past class winners of Florida Region^Òs Longest Night will be competing at Summit Point and at least one Speed Channel World Challenge Team will be making a run for the overall win.
