BMW North America joins Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point contingency program.

20 March 2003: The Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America and BMW North America announced today that BMW North America is establishing a contingency prize for the 5th Annual Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point to be held May 30-31, 2003 at Summit Point Raceway. The Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point, an endurance race for sports cars and sedans, is the longest perennial amateur endurance race in the U.S. and attracts competitors from across the U.S. The event will be held on the challenging two-mile Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, West Virginia.

"BMW North America has a long racing tradition and we feel that participating in one of the premier amateur endurance races in the U.S. is an excellent way to show off the reliability of our cars," said Tom Salkowsky, M-Brand and Motorsports Manager of BMW North America. BMW North America's program will provide cash based on the finishing positions of teams competing in the grueling 12-hour competition. Salkowsky added that, "--endurance racing is a true test of a sports sedan and the reliability demonstrated on the race track is in all our cars."

"The Region is enthusiastic about the support from BMW North America for our grassroots racing program," said Chuck Allard, DC Regional Executive. Allard went on to say "there is a strong contingent of competitors that compete in BMWs in, not only the 12 Hours at the Point, but also the MARRS Championship." BMW North America's contingency prize will award $500 to the highest overall finishing BMW, $250 to the second highest, $125 to the third highest finish and $50 to any additional BMW that wins its class.

The event, like all SCCA races at Summit Point is open to spectators and will take place rain or shine. More event information can be found at www.12hoursatthepoint.org
