Final pre event entry list for 5th Annual Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point

27-May-03: With only four days until the 5th Annual Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point, the Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America has made its final pre-event entrant list. Fifty-five cars are entered and six cars still are wait-listed for the challenging event. Practice and qualifying for the event will be Friday. May 31. The race will start at noon on Saturday, June 1. This is the fifth year that the event will be held at Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, WV.

Ten different manufacturers are represented in the fifty-five-car field. Mazda has the largest contingent with 24 entrants -- 17 of which are Miatas. BMW and Daimler-Chrysler are tied for the second most popular brand with eight entrants each -- BMW is concentrated in the ITB class and the Daimler-Chrysler's in SSC. Honda, Volkswagen and Nissan each have three entrants; Porsche and Acura have two each; Ford and Pontiac have the smallest contingent with a single entry each.

The Pontiac Formula Firebird entry of North Carolina Region's Timothy Swain is making history with its entry. Swain is the first competitor to attempt the grueling 12 Hours at the Point in a General Motors automobile.

Fifteen cars, including last year's winner and Spec Miata distance recordholder William O'Brian will be vying for the Spec Miata class and overall win. For the first eleven hours, last year's Spec Miata race was a hard fought battle between four teams and this year also will be a closely contested race.

Thirteen Improved Touring S cars are scheduled to take the green on Saturday. The field includes the two-time 12 Hour winning John Legg entry and the 2000 class winner Dan Crossett.

The Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point is open to spectators and will take place rain-or-shine. For more information, please see www.12hoursatthepoint.org
