AMSOIL Joins as Sponsor of The Kumho Tires 12 Hours a Summit Point

January 5, 2004: AMSOIL INC., Wappman Motorsports (an Independent AMSOIL Dealer) and The Washington DC Region of the Sports Car Club of America announced today that AMSOIL INC. and Wappman Motorsports had joined the contingency program for the 6th Annual Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point. AMSOIL INC. and Wappman Motorsports have extended their contingency program to both the competitors and the many volunteer race officials that staff the grueling 12-hour event. The June 4-5, 2004 edition of the grueling once-around-the-clock race will be the first time that AMSOIL, the leader in synthetic lubricants, and Wappman Motorsports have participated in the contingency program.

Held on challenging two-mile Summit Point Raceway located in the Summit Point Motorsports Park, Summit Point, WV. The Kumho Tires 12 Hours at the Point has quickly become a must-do event among grassroots racers. The race, though only six years old, has roots extending back to the 1950s and the classic 12 Hours of Marlboro.

AMSOIL sponsors all type of racing across the country including snowmobile, motocross, dirt track, and F-1 powerboats. Since creating the first synthetic motor oil in 1972, AMSOIL has developed the most complete line of synthetic lubricants and automotive products in the world. The history of AMSOIL product innovations is a checklist of industry firsts.

Independent AMSOIL Dealer Bruce Wappman of Wappman Motorsports, Harrisburg, PA, in conjunction with AMSOIL Inc., will provide contingency sponsorship to the racers and volunteer workers of the event. Over $1500 worth of AMSOIL products will be awarded after the checker flag drops at midnight, concluding the 12 hours of amateur sportscar racing at the Point.

Bruce Wappman, the owner/driver for the #98 Wappman Motorsports Plymouth Neon said, "We are pleased to offer this sponsorship for the 12 Hours at the Point. I have been a team owner and driver in the event the past three years and I am excited about providing an incentive to the 50-plus teams competing in this year's race. SCCA Club racing drivers are not accustomed to prize money or contingency prizes, so I know the entrants will be happy to see AMSOIL, and all the other sponsors, offering prizes." Not only will the racers on the track be able to win AMSOIL products, but some of the 200-plus volunteer workers of the event will too. According to Wappman, "It takes a large number of people to organize and run this great event. These people work all day long so we can race and I wanted to offer them a thank you."
