Milner goes west to the Rim of the World.

Pirelli British Rally Champion Jonny Milner is California bound next weekend, as he takes his customer specification Subaru Impreza WRX to Palmdale, USA, for the Rim of the World Rally.

Milner will be supported by Team Dynamics Inc. for the second round of the SCCA Pro Rally Championship. Co-Driver Duncan McMath will be on the pace notes for Yorkshireman Milner in what is a very privateer effort on America's premier rally series.

Supported by the US arm of Jonny's UK title sponsor Team Dynamics, and Pirelli Tyres, the Milner assault on the SCCA championship is a cost effective approach to the series. Although run with customer support from Prodrive, the team is very much an independant and privately funded effort, even bringing its own mechanics from the UK to each event.

"People think that we are a big budget team but that is far from the truth" said Jonny. "We're rallying in the USA on a minimal budget in a hired car, but we are still a competitive package. Prodrive's experience and guidance has been invaluable since we began rallying in the USA, but I'd welcome anyone to come and speak to us on the rallies to see how good value it is to be a customer in a Prodrive rented car."

With excellent customer support at hand, Jonny is looking forward to being reunited with his ex-Lovell 2001 Championship winning Subaru on May 2nd. The car is in showroom specification including a 6 speed synchro gearbox. The car also runs the USA regulation 40mm turbo restrictor, giving around 300 horsepower. As Milner explains, its the affordable and reliable choice for their look and learn policy this season:

"For Duncan and myself, its very much a learning year in 2003. The events are mostly new to us both, Rim included, and we're still getting used to rallying this side of the Atlantic. Being able to promote the USA operations of our UK sponsor Team Dynamics is also a major plus. Team Dynamics Inc. are launching a range of competition race and rally wheels in the USA imminently, so we're delighted to be involved in that promotion.

As for the rally itself, I've heard that its a combination of both rough and fast stages in places. With the car being showroom specification, we'll have to take it a bit easy in the rough places, but I'll not be hanging about in the fast stuff. Both Duncan and myself are very keen to build our experience levels ahead of next season. We will hopefully be in a position to try and get some top three results in 2003, but for now, its more important to get mileage under the belts and to learn the nature of the roads."

With opposition in the shape of factory entries from Subaru and Mitsubishi, along with a number of other rapid American drivers, its no easy learning curve for the Team Dynamics duo. Milner and McMath will also be supported by NGK Spark Plugs and Ferodo Competition Brake Pads for the next instalment of their Wild West adventures.
