Big Bore Series Headlines SCCA Pro Racing Series Events At New Jersey Motorsports Park... Plus Clean and Green Racing from the VW TDI CUP

Millville NJ (May 4, 2010) The SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series headlines a three day weekend of intensely competitive racing starting this Friday, May 7th at New Jersey Motorsports Park. The high horsepower of these ground thumping muscle cars spreads their brute force to the enjoyment of race fans like no other race series as they carry serious power and speed flashing their way through the twisting bends and straights on the lightning fast 2.25 mile Thunderbolt Raceway.

Boasting a history of spectacular racing dating back to 1966, such legendary drivers as Mark Donohue, Wally Dallenbach, Jr., Scott Pruett, Tommy Kendall and Paul Gentilozzi have won multiple championships and thrilled the crowds with their fender rubbing battles on such great racing arenas as Riverside and Virginia International Raceway.

As a driver, Gentilozzi garnered a record 31 overall victories and now owns and captains the Rocket Sports Trans Am Racing team with last year's champion Tomy Drissi driving the swift Jaguar XVR in competition against the powerful Corvette's of Tony Ave, Mike Skeen and the very quick Amy Ruman.

Since the early 80's, the Trans Am Series has used a tube-framed based chassis, similar to the original IMSA GT Series, with heavy emphasis on GT cars. For mega horsepower sports car enthusiasts, the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series is a chance to witness the raw power of cars like the, Chevrolet Corvette, Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, Jaguar XKR, and Mazda RX-7 as they mix it up wheel-to-wheel on the challenging 14 turn Thunderbolt circuit.

Green Consciousness on and off the track

"We are most proud to welcome back the VW Jetta TDI Cup to Thunderbolt Raceway as our "green flagship" racing series. This green action series demonstrates the commitment from the racing community, SCCA, and VW to further the use of biodiesel in race vehicles and race support vehicles, stated Brad Scott, NJMP General Manager during a recent public gathering at NJMP."

The SCCA Pro Racing Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup was launched in 2008 as a way to introduce clean diesel technology to the U.S. market and develop the best of motorsport's up-and-coming stars. During the season, drivers between ages 16-26 compete on road courses around North America in identical factory-prepared clean diesel Jetta TDI's. Each driver competing in the series earns a Pro Racing license from SCCA at the conclusion of the season. In addition to more than $50,000 in prize money at stake during the season, the series champion receives Volkswagen factory career advancement support with a value up to $100,000.

The Jetta TDI Cup car is powered by a 2.0-liter, 170 horsepower, four-cylinder TDI clean diesel engine mated to a six-speed, double-clutch, automatic DSG transmission. The car is only slightly modified from stock with Pirelli racing tires, race suspension and brake components, drivers racing safety seat, FIA roll cage and an on-board fire extinguisher system.
