Buras from BSI Racing Leads MX-5 Cup Series in Points
A race weekend marred by caution flags and wet practice sessions did not stop the BSI Racing team from two top-10 race finishes. Todd Buras powered the No. 56 BSI Racing/Krispy Kreme Miata to a second place finish. The BSI Racing prepped No. 57 Vision Painting Miata driven by Mike Gatto finished 8th. BSI Racing also had a 12th place finish and campaigned four cars overall in the Memorial Day SCCA Pro Racing SIRIUS Satellite Radio Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by Hankook race.
Stu Brumer, team owner and manager said, " It was a successful day. Todd Burs is leading in points and has had very consistent races. This is a very strong competitive series and there is no doubt about that. Right now we are on our way towards a points based championship."
Buras finished the race in second place behind the No. 76 Miata driven by Jim Daniels with a 0.161 second spread between the two cars. The second place finish propelled Buras to being the new leader in driver points. Buras started the race in 4th place and quickly made his way up in the pack. Throughout the course Buras and Daniels tested each other's limits. Buras was leading the race for a lap and then Daniels ran the No. 56 machine down. While the two competitors were fighting for a first place position, they distanced themselves by five seconds from the rest of the pack.
" I was able to reel Daniels in a few times and I am sure that if I had one more lap at the end I would have been able to capture first place," said Buras. "Throughout the race when Daniels was ahead of me his teammate was right behind me, diving at me in the corners. The two of them were working together to get me off of my line. It was like a knuckle sandwich and I was in the middle. "
With his few remaining laps Buras felt the car come alive. "My fastest lap all race was my last one, and my second fastest was the one prior to that. I made up three seconds in just those two laps." With the second place finish Buras was able to walk away from the race as the new points leader. "It was a pretty exciting race, but I am a bit disappointed that I didn't come in first."
Buras and the rest of the BSI Racing team will be preparing for their next race at Mosport International Raceway on June 17. Last year Buras finished 5th and 2nd in the two races held during the Mosport event weekend in a Spec Miata National Class.
