Portland, Oregon -- Michael Galati, driving the Champion Audi/Audi S4 Competition, won round six of the SCCA Pro Racing Speedvision World Challenge GT series race at Portland International Raceway today.
Galati lead from pole position in his Audi S4 Competition to take his third win of the season. The North Olmstead, Ohio resident was never challenged during the 50-minute race. Galati lead by as much as 10 seconds with a final victory margin of four seconds. Galati extends his driver's championship points lead to 30 with the victory.
Teammate Derek Bell, driving the Legends of Motorsport /Audi S4 Competition, finished in a Speedvision series career best fifth. The sportscar legend was having trouble with locking brakes and could not get a good run on the Porsches in front of him. Bell looked very competitive the entire race running as high as fourth.
Quotes after the race: Michael Galati, Champion Audi/Audi S4 Competition: "I was able to get a good start as we usually do with the Audi and lead into the first turn. The quattro drive of the Audi really works well here at Portland. I wanted to take care of the brakes because we were seeing very high temperatures in practice. I had a 10 second lead and was able to take care of the car and get my third win."
Derek Bell, Legends of Motorsport /Audi S4 Competition: "I got a pretty good start and moved into third, but I was on the outside for the first corner so that hurt me. The car was sliding around pretty good and I had a lot of front wheel lock throughout the race. I was braking as late as I could and that heated up the brakes and was using up my front tires. I couldn't get a run on the Porsches to get by so I had to settle for fifth."
"Michael did an excellent job. He led from the pole and was fast all weekend. Derek had his best finish since he has driven for us. It was a good weekend all around. Michael is taking advantage of all the points possibilities with an eye on the championship," said Rod Bymaster, manager, Audi Sport North America.
The Speedvision GT race from Portland will be televised on Friday, August 24 at 9:00 p.m. EDT on Speedvision. <pre>
