TRANS-AM TRADITION RETURNS TO MOSPORT; Re-Born Series To Join SPEED World Challenge On Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend

BOWMANVILLE, ON (December 11, 2008) - Mosport has added a longtime fan favorite, the Trans-Am® Series, to its 2009 season-opening Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend, May 15-17. Joining the Trans-Am will be one of North America's most popular road racing championships, the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge.

The Trans-Am, a successful racing series launched in 1966, returns after a two-year hiatus with a planned eight-race schedule as well as a new series' title sponsor for 2009-Muscle Milk®. Five of the eight races were announced today at the Performance Racing Industry show, in Orlando, Fla., including the Mosport round.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Trans-Am Series was the featured event of the Victoria Day weekend. Mosport has hosted 25 Trans-Am races with Scott Pruett winning the last series appearance at Canada's Home of Motorsports in 2003.

Mosport has hosted the World Challenge since its inception in 1990, this year trading its traditional August date for the first Canadian long weekend of the summer. Operated by WC Vision and SCCA Pro Racing, the nine-event SPEED Channel- sponsored Championship runs as two separate series and races (SCCA SPEED GT and SCCA SPEED Touring Car) at major venues across the continent and features the world's most popular manufacturers, like Porsche, Cadillac, Acura, Mazda and Chevrolet.

In addition to the SPEED GT, fans will get to enjoy a SPEED Touring Car doubleheader and the homegrown Castrol Canadian Touring Car Series, a Saturday night fireworks show, plus other races.

Tickets and holiday gift certificates can be purchased online at or by calling the Mosport Ticket Hotline (1-800-866-1072).
