SEAN RAYHALL WINS SCCA FORMULA ENTERPRISES PRO CHAMPIONSHIP
"Rayhall becomes youngest SCCA Pro Champion"
Winston, GA (September 20, 2010) - Two weeks ago, Sean Rayhall traveled to Virginia International Raceway for the final round of the SCCA FE Pro Championship. After setting the pace all day during Thursday practice, Sean had a freak scooter accident hitting a drainage ditch and breaking his right foot. Unaware how bad the fracture was, Sean went to the hospital to have it checked.
After confirming a fracture, Sean decided to forgo a cast for the weekend, but sat out all of Friday practice to rest his foot. In the Saturday morning qualifying session Sean quickly put the car P2, but had to pull into the pits due to pain. By the end of the session he was bumped down to fifth. In the first race Sean quickly moved into second and was chasing down the leader until the throttle cable broke ending the race in eleventh.
Later that afternoon rain came just before the second qualifying session. In the first four laps, Sean had a 3 second advantage on the field, but the track began to dry out. Sean swapped back and forth for pole position ending in second. Needing a second place finish to clinch the title, Sean still had to push hard. During the race he got off to a great start when he took the lead on the first lap and never looked back cruising to victory by over four seconds. In victory circle Sean had to be helped out of the car due to his foot pain.
"This is absolutely amazing," stated Rayhall. "I really can't thank my team enough for all of their support all season and especially this weekend. The competition was tough all year and I was pushed to dig deep in the final race."
By winning the championship, Sean became the youngest driver to win a SCCA Pro championship and a Pro series in the United States. In route to this achievement Sean qualified on pole eight times, won six of ten races, led the most laps in eight races, and set four track records.
