The eclectic VHC grid was once again enough to stir the hearts of all historic car fans. Qualifying showed that it wasn’t all about Porsches, since the first was only down in seventh place and that belonged to reigning Champions, Moreau and Langin. A Cesca Grac, Chevron B16, Elva MK8, Ford Falcon and GT 40 took the top spots on a dream grid. It was obvious from the start that the 2.0 Ford-powered Cesca Grac that was so out of sorts on the Circuit Bugatti, would leave its rivals no chance.

The race promised to be fascinating, with some genuine battles in prospect in the overall classification as well as the Group 3, Group 4, and Sport Prototypes classes. And the promises were kept. The Lola T70 Spyder of Ferrer and Mister John of B started favourite, led for an hour and fifty minutes, but lost out when the rain began to fall in earnest. This left Porsche n°1 driven by Moreau and Langin to take an impressive victory ahead of the excellent Emmanuel Brigand in n°91, and “Flying Brit” Nigel Greensall in n°76.

The level of qualifying boded well for a very interesting race. The Norma n°26 of Dhouailly and Accary had to finish ahead of Mondolot and Zollinger’s n°1 to revive the Challenge – and that’s exactly what happened! The race itself was won by the Wolf GB08 n°45 driven by Italian pair Bellarosa and Latif. Despite a late challenge to the result, it was confirmed by race direction. Padmore and Rihon’s Norma n°34 took third on the line ahead of three other dumbfounded competitors.

With over 40 cars on the grid, it was always going to be a spectacular show. After a blistering start, Ferrari n°2 bumped into two other competitors and finished second (then dropped to fourth after a penalty), behind the excellent Milesi-Narac duo in Porsche n°52, who took the win. Second step on the podium went to the n°10 Mosler of the Escuela Espanola de Pilotos driven by the two Portuguese drivers, Bastos and Lorena, ably assisted by the very rapid British driver, Ben Clucas. After the final standings had been modified, Porsche n°63 driven by Polette and Lelièvre was third

The young Turks were there - Dannielou took pole position, Dhouailly, Accary and Beaubelique traded the lead - but it was as if a mirror of last season was being held up in front of us once Zollinger, Mondolot and Thuner took the chequered flag, ahead of Rihon, Padmore and Philllips in n°34, and Bazaud, Caillon and Medard aboard n°69.
A wonderfully mixed leading pack set us up for an outstanding race. The new rules that force all the cars to come down the pit lane six times – to even out the difference in fuel consumption between the cars – produced the desired intrigue. In the end, it was n°2 - the Ferrari F458 GT2 from Visiom, driven by Pagny, Perrier and Bouvet which won, ahead of the other 458 (n°84) from Sofrev ASP, and the Porsche 997 Cup S n°65 driven by Martinet, Tremblay and Beltoise. But it could easily have been very different…

The outcome of the race was in doubt right to the end, thanks to the wind and clouds that threatened to make a mess of everyone’s plans. In the end there were no Safety Cars and it was the n°26 Norma of Dhouailly, Accary and Glorieux that won for the second time in a row looking nicely set up for the race for the title.
In November 1992, Eric Van de Vyver was organising his first race. He decided it should be at the Circuit Paul Ricard - unquestionably one of the greatest French racetracks - and should last 24 hours. To crown it all, the “2 Tours d’Horloge” event should be exclusively for Historic Racing Cars.
By its second year, 80 cars were crammed onto the starting grid, with others sitting motionless in their garages through lack of space. This was to be the start of a festival and the beginning of a great adventure for the V de V Racing Team, that went on to become V de V Sports. The “2 Tours d’Horloge” quickly became one of the flagship events on the French and European Historic Racing calendar.
