MOTORCYCLES: Italian KTM rider Fabrizio Meoni scored his
third stage victory followed home by fellow italian Edi Orioli, 
the Yamaha rider now almost certain of joining Peterhansel

LABE, Guinea


The 18th Total Granada Dakar rally was shocked today when a small child
was killed after being hit by a motorcycle. The accident happened just
before the village of Tarembali, about 30km before the end of the stage.
The 3 year old girl was distracted by a helicopter, the motorcycle
ridden by Marcel Pilet, came over a crest and unfortunately unable to
avoid her.

El Mreiti, in the middle of nowhere, no village, no inhabitants
but a vast sahariene landscape at 40 degrees C. 


The motorcycle trio of Arcarons, Orioli, Trolli arrived grouped
together with Arcarons winning the stage. Orioli keeping his

The leaderboard has taken on a completely new look.


In the motorcycle category Edi Orioli has taken the lead from
Peterhansel who is now 7th, after having encountered several
fuel problems.  In second place Jordi Arcorans and third place 
to Davide Trolli.  Kinigadner's KTM engine gave up and had to take 
a helicopter back to the bivouac and retire from the race.

that at the 157th kilometre, the Mercedes Truck 413, which worked also
as an assistance vehicle for Citroen, piloted by Laurent GUEGUEN, have
