ROME -- Entries lists for Vallelunga 6 Hours Gold Cup and Silver Cup are going to be filled up. The two challenges will officially start on the Roman track this Thursday with free practice.
In Gold Cup, restricted to GT and Prototypes, the Factory Lister Storm Lmp Hybrid, a direct Lmp900 evolution, has confirmed its presence, aiming at repeating its 2004 victory. At the wheel there will be again Stefano Zonca, last year winner also in Silver Cup with a BMW M3 E46, who this time will share the driving seat with Andrea Belicchi. Not an easy life then for the other prototypes at the start, taking into account the relevant power gap which keep them apart from the Lister. But the long Vallunga 6 Hours tradition teaches us that reliability makes the difference, so leaving evenly matched all the cars at the start. Amongst the Sport Cars which will throw down the gauntlet in this demanding test we can find the Normas CN2, the first, factory entered, entrusted to Ghiotto-Nappi-Vita, the second, lined up by "I Motori di Carlotta", driven by Di Benedetto and other drivers to be named, or Silva-Ferri Lucchini SR2, lined up by Audisio & Benvenuto. All other prototypes are CN4 as Lucchini, Tampolli e Centenari. Amongst GT Cars the two Racing Box cars will for sure attract everybody attention: the Maserati MC12 driven by Mastracci-Maddalena-Serafini and the Chrysler Viper GTS-R entrusted to Ceccato-Sabatini-Spinelli, both Fia GT, or Perspective Racing Porsche 996 RS LMGT. The list carries on with many Porsche 996 GT3 Cup, a few Ferrari 360 Modena and an uncommon Opel Astra Coupè Silhouette, a class included in Gold Cup as from this year.
The Silver Cup, for Touring Cars, will reckon a larger gathering as usual. In this challenge too Zonca will be back at the wheel trying to repeat his 2004 performance, first driver to win both races in the same edition. Zonca will drive a Duller Motorsport BMW M3 E46 GTR which he will share with Joe Macari and with an exceptional guest, Adrian Newey, McLaren Mercedes F1 Technical Director who, for the occasion, will therefore put himself in the drivers shoes. In addition to the many M3s - a good eleven in different classes and, among them, the crews Quester-Peter (Duller Motorsport), Peroni-Peroni-d'Amico-Argenti (Max Team), Meloni-Venturi-Merendino (W&D Racing Team), Cerrai-Fabris (Max Team) -- we have the Factory Seat Leon Cupra, whose performances are always increasing, and the AGS Engineering Audi A4, in addition to the Renault Clios RS, 147 GTA Alfa Romeos and BMWs 320i. Eleven the Diesel cars at the start: on this occasion too the stars are BMWs as 330d and Cd, 300d or the "baby" 120d, in addition to the VW Golf and Bora and Seat Leon, Toledo and Ibiza.
