Second consecutive victory
ZOLDER. Success for SRT. On Saturday Marc Duez, Tom Cloet, Maxime Soulet and David Hart started from pole position on the dot of five o'clock, and 24 Hours later they took the winner's chequered flag. "This victory is unbelievable", these were the only words that the team manager Patrick Selleslagh was able to utter when the car crossed the finish line. SRT drove the entire event with double stints and with that laid the foundations for the second consecutive victory in the Euphony 24 Hours of Zolder.
It was Marc Duez who took the start of the 24 Hours on Saturday afternoon. This experienced Belgian driver let the battle up front take its course and followed the leaders in his own set pace. "We had clear cut agreements", Marc explained. "We were not to take any risks and we had to retain a sensible pace. In addition each driver would be in for double driving stints allowing us to gain time in the pitlane. On top of that it is also enjoyable for a driver, once he's settles down into the rhythm, to be able to spend more time at the wheel. This strategy was definitely one of the factors in achieving our victory."
Notwithstanding a few minor race incidents, the Williams sponsored team was able to keep a steady pace and at the half-way mark the gap with the GLPK was barely a few minutes. At first light the regularity of the team paid off and SRT took over the lead, never to relinquish it. David Hart brought the Corvette C5-R, originating from the Pratt & Miller workshops, over the finishing line and as such gave the team its second consecutive victory at this Limburg 24 Hours event.
Maxime Soulet thanks to his pole position efforts was one of the stalwarts of the team. "I'm really happy. Try to image that I have just won here with one of my idols when I was young: Marc Duez, That it just unbelievable. On top of that we have thrashed GLPK, a team that won the WC last week and has its home base right here. SRT is a fantastic team and who knows there might be a sequel to this"
Tom Cloet and David Hart were also overjoyed after the race. For Tom Cloet it was the first victory after having competed in roughly fifteen 24 Hours races. "Indeed, I have gained an enormous amount of experience. Patrick supported and helped me enormously. I have learned a considerable amount this weekend."
For David Hart it was undoubtedly a new high point in his richly filled career. The Dutchman proved his experience, especially with his driving prowess in the rain.
SRT is now travelling down to Albi for the fifth leg of the FFSA-GT Championship.
