Vitantonio Liuzzi showed a shining form in the third round of the 2008-09 Speedcar Series at Losail, Qatar. The Italian, who was slowed down by mechanical problems at Al Sakhir after his stunning debut at Dubai, cruised to 2nd place on Friday, before taking an impressive Race 2 win and clocking the fastest lap in both races. After topping the charts in Practice, Liuzzi battled transmission issues and settled for 7th in Qualifying. The Force India F.1 test-driver was finally back rolling for race day, when he fought his way back to the runner-up spot after winning a fiery battle with Jean Alesi. Due to the reverse grid, Vitantonio took off once again from Row 4, catching the leading car of Marco Melandri with ease, and eventually took the lead when Melandri was forced to retire with a broken gearbox, making his way to victory lane.

Vitantonio Liuzzi

"We had a really positive weekend, though the gearbox issue experienced in qualifying prevented me from fighting for the pole spot and a complete hat-trick. On Race 1 I was really fast. I started to battle the cars I had in front, but I lost time due to a contact between two rival cars. I made up by passing Herbert and Alesi, but Morbidelli was too far away at that point. I was more lucky on Race 2, when Melandri was forced to retire while leading. I feel sorry for him, because he was putting together a great drive. In the end, I recovered well despite some understeer issues, and I'll do what I can to fight for title in the final rounds of the series."
