Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Races Back to Where it all Started
17 September 2008-(Tooele, UT)--Just over six months after the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup launched at Miller Motorsports Park, the series will come storming back to where it all started this weekend for a championship double-header to close out the inaugural season for the innovative Mustang championship.
Andrew Caddell has demonstrated both speed and smarts thus far in the inaugural season, with three wins and three runner-up finishes in six rounds of racing, but his StableOne Racing teammate Terry Borcheller will keep pushing the championship leader right to the end of the 2008 season. Borcheller won the Barber Motorsports Park round of Mustang Challenge competition, and then added to his list of career Ford Mustang wins at Lime Rock Park with a second flag to flag victory in as many races after joining the championship in July. Caddell will also have to contend with Jamie Slone, Mike McGovern, Tony Buffomante, and Carlo Sparacio among others as a full field of Ford Mustang FR500S machines contest the final two rounds of the season this weekend.
After being part of the first major motorsports event at New Jersey Motorsports Park in advance of this weekend's Miller Motorsports Park season ender, the entire Mustang Challenge paddock is looking forward to getting twice the racing action in to close out the year with a race on Friday and then a second race event on Sunday.
"A lot of our competitors were first exposed to the Ford Mustang FR500S here at Miller Motorsports Park when we conducted the opening seminars with the drivers taking their first laps in the cars, so they've been anxious to get back here and race ever since," said Mustang Challenge Series Director Lynda Randall. "Several of the drivers also got their first bit of instruction in the Ford Racing High Performance Driving School Mustangs, so we are really excited about coming back and having a double-header to close out what has been a truly fantastic season this year."
The Ford Mustang FR500S driven by Mustang Challenge racers rolls right off the same production line as the Ford Mustangs you see on the road every day, and can be ordered from any Ford dealer across the country.
The Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup is a new professional racing series co-developed by Ford Racing and Miller Motorsports Park. Utilizing the new Ford Mustang FR500S and sanctioned by the Grand American Road Racing Association, the Mustang Challenge series is a support series to major professional road racing events across North America. A competitive point structure and generous purses make the Mustang Challenge the perfect affordable, challenging platform for racers who want to compete in a V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive car on a level playing field that will showcase driver ability in high-profile events.
