Ryan Hooker Prepares For Bathurst 24 Hours Race In Australia

Ryan Hooker has flown to Australia to prepare for his first 24hour endurance race at the prestigious Bathurst 24hr event to be held on 22nd November.

Ryan, from Upminster in Essex, has secured a drive with the Nathan Pilkington led four man team. Ryan, Nathan, Roland Hill and Denis Cribbin will take to the gruelling track in Nathan's Nissan 350Z. The 350Z competed in the inaugural Bathurst 24hours in 2002 achieving speeds of over 160mph. With a power band between 2500 and 6000 rpm it will prove a challenging drive for Ryan whose ambition is to compete in GT Sportscar racing.

200km north-west of Sydney, Bathurst is legendary in Australian motorsport, and with the running of the 24hrs hopes to become a firm fixture in international endurance racing alongside such famed races as Le Mans. This year it has attracted some formidable names in motorsport including Peter Brock, former F1 driver Andrea Montermini, former BTCC Champ Tim Harvey and British 2002 GT Champ Tommy Erdos.

The Mount Panorama circuit is 6.213kms and runs in an anti-clockwise direction undulating between 870m and 670m above sea level and is formed from closed public roads. It is considered one of the most challenging tracks in the world today.

Ryan is keeping a diary of his adventures Down Under which is being featured on the BBCi Essex website.

To raise funds for his event Ryan held a successful karting evening in early November which saw 10 teams battle it out at the Playscape Pro Racing Kart centre, Streatham. In a 2 hour long race which saw the lead change hands even in the dying laps the eventual victors were "Formula Nuns" followed home by "Batsie Boys" and "Three Nations". A great time was had by all and a further event is planned in the New Year to raise funds for Ryan's assault on the 2004 motorsport's season.
