WATKINS GLEN, N.Y.--Richard Golinello's first race at Watkins Glen International was marked by rain and setup challenges, but ended with a top-ten finish and the GREENFilterusa.com "We're Going Green" Award. The rookie finished tenth in Sunday's Ford Racing Mustang Challenge race.

Golinello's weekend began with two challenges. He worked to learn the fast way around Watkins Glen in the No. 50 R&C Motorsports Ford Mustang, and he had to fine-tune the Mustang's setup for the daunting track.

"It takes a lot of commitment to go into some of the turns at Watkins Glen," Golinello comments. "You have to get a lot of laps there to really get the right lap put together. It finally came together for me after a lot of work."

As it turned out, finding the right setup wasn't as important when it came time to race on Sunday. "It rained twice during the race," says Golinello. "Everybody had a dry setup, so when it rained you just had to go with it." The bad weather marked Golinello's first rain race.

When the green flag waved, Golinello made an early charge, making up more positions on the first lap than anyone else in the field. For that, Golinello was awarded his second consecutive GREENFilterusa.com "We're Going Green" Award.

About halfway through the race, Golinello put on an extra burst of speed when he began stringing together fast, consistent laps. Despite the rain, Golinello went two seconds quicker than he had in the dry practice and qualifying sessions. The fast laps helped him bring home a tenth-place finish in the R&C Motorsports Mustang.

"There were no full-course cautions during the race. That's amazing, considering the rain," says Golinello. "Of course, a full-course caution would have helped me because it would have closed up the field, but I'm glad no one crashed and we stayed green the whole time. Everybody was on their best behavior out there!"

Golinello only has a brief break before round six of the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge series, which will get underway on June 20 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. With two GREENFilterusa.com "We're Going Green" Awards and one Rookie of the Race honor under his belt after just five races, Golinello will be looking add a Mid-Ohio podium to his list of achievements.
