Slone Back On The Podium at Lime Rock in Mustang Challenge
TUCSON, Arizona -- Jamie Slone of the Slone Racing #6 GoPro/Molecule Ford Mustang FR500S came to Lime Rock for round 5 of the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge looking to get back on the podium after a tough weekend at Barber. Slone took the best he could get and finished third for the day behind second place finisher Andrew Caddell and winner Terry Borcheller for Stable One.
Slone said, "Qualifying at Lime Rock pretty much determines race results as it is so hard to pass in a spec series and you need someone to make a mistake. Qualifying conditions were wet and dry and we were on slicks so it made it tough to press it. Caddell started P1 and his mistakes on lap 1 allowed Borcheller to pass for the lead and then it was a three car breakaway for 45 minutes. My car was fast today in turns 1 thru 4 but it just didn't have enough on the front straight to take advantage of it. Any chance I had of passing Andrew came in places where I couldn't capitalize on it. Lap traffic did not cause us any serious problems and all three of us ran a clean race, which is the way it should be. I am a competitor and winning the race is my goal but I am pleased with my performance today. I want to thank my wife Kym who came with me on this trip, Rehagen Racing for helping me run the car and my sponsors GoPro and Molecule. Anytime you can make a podium it is a thrill."
Slone still remains second in points and now has a 16-point lead over Mike McGovern. Slone adds, "The difference in points between the leader Andrew Caddell is significant. He would have to not finish races to bring me back in the hunt for the championship and that is not likely to happen. At this point it's all about winning the race. Borcheller has two, Caddell has two and I have one. My goal is to win races and the next shot is at Thunderbolt in NJ."
Round 6 of the Miller Cup takes place at Thunderbolt Raceway at the New Jersey Motorsports Park complex in Millville, NJ on August 30th. Then the series makes its way to the Miller Motorsports Park in Toole, UT for rounds 7 & 8, a double-header and the finale to the 2008 season.
