Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Ready for Barber Motorsports Park Debut
14 July 2008-(Tooele, UT)--Fresh off another successful round of Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup competition at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the Series will make its debut appearance at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, this weekend as part of the Porsche 250 presented by Bradley Arant Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series event. Twenty racers are entered for the race, all of whom will be looking to get the most out of their Ford Mustang FR500S machines come Sunday's scheduled 1:00 PM race start.
With three rounds of Mustang Challenge racing in the books, the Barber Motorsports Park event marks the mid-point of the eight-round inaugural Mustang Challenge race season, which will conclude on September 21 with a double-header at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah.
After racing the first three events of the season with TC Motorsports, championship leader Andrew Caddell has been signed to StableOne Racing and will be making his first Mustang Challenge start with the team at Barber. Caddell hopes to keep his podium-appearance streak alive after taking two wins and a second place in the first three Mustang Challenge races of the season, but he knows he'll have to fight off a field of hungry racers on Sunday to do so.
"It is tough for me to leave TC Motorsports because they really stuck their neck out to run me at the start of the season, but this opportunity with StableOne was just too good to pass up," said Caddell. "I want to thank Carlo Sparacio for his faith in me. I'm really looking forward to being a part of StableOne Racing and helping any way I can. I've spent some time with the guys on the team, and I think we are going to have some fun this season."
The race weekend will open with a promoter test day on Thursday in advance of practice on Friday, with Saturday slated to host qualifying before Sunday's round four of the 2008 championship. Full results, live timing, and the race story will be posted at www.MustangChallenge.com.
