BATHURST 24-HOUR: 23-HOUR UPDATE

Drama followed drama for the Cirtek Porsche team in the final hour of the Bathurst 24-Hour race today.

The GT3 RS coupe was sidelined for a second time within seconds of rejoining the race at 3.04 pm.

The crew had done an amazing job to repair the car's right-rear suspension in around 30 minutes after Allan Grice crashed on top of the mountain.

Then the car was handed to Darren Palmer and was in a position to retain third place behind the leading holden Monaro and the second-placed Mosler.

However, at the first corner, Griffin's Bend, Palmer understeered left off the track and into the concrete safety wall.

The crew said they hoped to get the car back to the pits and repaired in time to rejoin before the finish.

Meanwhile Steve Richards pitted the Monaro at 3.18 pm for a final service and headed for a likely victory with 18 laps in hand over the Mosler.

1 Richards (Monaro) 510 laps
2 Short (Mosler) 488 laps
3 Palmer (Porsche) 487 laps - crashed, but not yet retired
4 Hannen (Duller BMW) 484 laps
5 Angelo (BMW) 475 laps
6 Wilson (Duller BMW) 475 laps
