Balfe Team set to tackle Barcelona
The Balfe Motorsport Team will take to the Spanish Grand Prix venue of Barcelona next month when they compete in the final round of the Spanish GT Championship.
The team had a successful season in the British GT Championship in during 2003, ending the season in runner-up position after an accident in the final round. The Spanish race will be a one-off for the team and drivers for the Mosler MT900R have been confirmed as Jamie Derbyshire and Nigel Taylor.
"The Barcelona race will give the team the chance to try a different championship, but might also offer us some possibilities for the 2004 season." Explains Shaun Balfe
"Jamie has plenty of experience with the car and Nigel has driven prototypes this season so they should be a good pairing. The weekend will also give us the chance to try some changes to the car that we were not able to do during the season. However, we will be running with smaller restrictors compared to the British Championship and the level of competition in the Spanish series is high so we are not expecting to have an easy time." He adds.
The team has yet to finalise its plans for the 2004 season and has a number of options it is looking at. The battle down to the wire in the UK series has shown that the team is capable at competing at the highest level.
"We had a good season and the team has worked incredibly hard through the year. We are still thinking about our plans for next year, the car is competitive in the UK and this race should allow us to see what it is like against different opposition. It will definitely give us some important information about what we can do with the Mosler and how it compares to GT cars we have not been up against yet." says Shaun.
