This Week in Ford Racing
October 6, 2010
This past weekend Tanner Foust, driver of the ROCKSTAR Ford Fiesta, earned his second back-to-back win in the Rallycar U.S. Rallycross Championship at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Foust talks about getting the second win and the progress the Ford Fiesta has made in 2010.
TANNER FOUST - Ford Fiesta X Games Gold Medalist
FOR THE SECOND RALLYCAR RALLYCROSS EVENT IN A ROW YOU TOOK FIRST PLACE AT NEW JERSEY MOTORSPORTS PARK. "This was the second event for Rallycross in the U.S and the second event in the three event championship and there were big changes in this event. There was a lot more competition as we knew there was going to be, but we had four manufacturer's represented with real well prepared cars and teams. It was definitely a battle. The weather through in her tricks in the end there and made it a really rainy final. It made the win all that much sweeter for the Fiesta and ROCKSTAR."
THIS WIN SEEMED TO BE A LITTLE TOUGHER TO GET. "In round two here we definitely had a lot more top-level competitors and top-level teams, which does make the competition better and it makes it more fun. It makes the driving faster, it's a better show for the fans and it hones in where we really want to go with this sport in the U.S. with at least 12 cars on the top tier battling it out. With only two events down in the U.S. it shows real promise for Rallycross in this country. With the third event around the corner and even more European teams and American teams signed up for the third event we could close out 2010 ahead of schedule on introducing this cool sport of Rallycross to the nation."
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE PROGRESS BEING MADE WITH THE FIESTA PROGRAM? "I've known for a few years now that the Fiesta would be a good platform for what we've wanted to do here in the United States with X Games and Rallycross. Obviously Olsbergs MSE and Andreas Erikson from Sweden have had great success with the Fiesta internationally. In 2009 I was lucky enough to run with Kenny Brack at X Games and get the medal and then in 2010 we really showed that the Ford Fiesta was really the car to have for this type of high energy motorsport by sweeping gold and silver in both Rallycar and Rallycross events at X Games. I think it's still the car to have even with all the competition at the New Jersey events and all of the competition signed up for next year's six event Rallycross season in the States. I'm glad to still be in the Ford Fiesta. This is the time of year when everyone is putting their programs together for next year and it's great to see so many manufacturers including Ford committed to cutting edge motorsports. It's great to have sponsors like Etnies and ROCKSTAR that are willing to dive into these action sports with the steering wheels. Things are really looking interesting for 2011."
