VISAGIE / OLSEN EXCLUDED FROM VOLKSWAGEN RALLY
Pretoria crew Rodney Visagie and Chris Olsen have been excluded from the results of the Volkswagen Rally, round five of the Stannic National Rally Championship, held in the Eastern Cape over the weekend.
Visagie and Olsen scored their first Class N1 win of the season when they came in ahead of veteran Wiley Harrington and Neil Fourie in a Nissan Sentra. The pair were later excluded from the results, however, following a technical inspection which revealed irregularities to the Toyota Conquest's exhaust manifold.
The exclusion of Visagie and Olsen lifted Harrington and Fourie into first place in Class N1 - giving them their second win in a row.
"We dropped back on day one when we lost nine minutes on special stage three," said Harrington. "The battery cable worked loose and when we got going again the Sentra's computer went into a 'get you home' mode where you cannot rev the motor.
"We had to switch off all power a couple of times and wait until the car's computer reset itself. At the finish we were within four minutes of Visagie and Olsen, so without the stage three problem we would probably have finished ahead of them anyway."
The Visagie/Olsen exclusion also saw the father and son team of Dave and Wayne Watt, in another Toyota Conquest, and championship leaders Allan Worms and Ashley Gericke (Opel Corsa) move up to second and third respectively in Class N1.
