The Vacation Vans off road team has been forced to withdraw the ex-Mickey Thompson Stadium Grand Prix Ford Ranger from this weekend's Nissan Sugarbelt 400 in Kwa Zulu Natal.

A faulty starter motor damaged the ring gear beyond repair and there is no time for the team to source these specialised components from overseas before the weekend.

The Vacation Vans Jeep Cherokee is in good shape and will be co-driven by 11 times SA rally champion Sarel van der Merwe and either Arthur Abraham or Stratford Voogt, who was scheduled to drive the Ford, with Scott Abraham navigating.

"This is a major blow for the Vacation Vans off road team", said Stratford Voogt. "We were hoping for a good finish with the Ford in the Special Vehicle category but we're now pinning our hopes on overall victory in the Production Vehicle category with the V8 powered Jeep".
