Interstate Batteries Renews Commitment To The Great Race.

SAN MARCOS, TX ( January 13, 2003) - Interstate Batteries renewed its involvement with the Great Race organizers as the Official Battery of the Great Race from 2003 through 2007. The family-owned company has been involved with The Great Race at various levels since 1983.

"We are thrilled to be back with the Great Race," said Interstate Batteries Chairman Norm Miller. "Our first big sponsorship venture came in 1983 when we joined the two-week rally across North America. I believe the publicity generated from the Great Race was one of the reasons that Interstate became the No. 1 automotive replacement brand in North America."

Interstate has committed to a five-year sponsorship as the official battery of the Great Race. Interstate will also be seen through prominent signage, their NASCAR Bobby Labonte Chevrolet show car and participant giveaways.

"Having Interstate Batteries back supporting the Great Race is part of our key to positive partnerships," said Joyce Caron-Mercier, executive director of the Great Race. "Interstate Batteries did so much for this prestigious event as the entitlement sponsor through their calendars, signage on trucks and various other marketing partnerships. I am elated to have them on board."

The Great Race 2003 will take place from June 21 through July 4, going through much of the Midwest and South Central United States, beginning in the Detroit area and commencing in the Daytona Beach area. "Having our name associated with the Great Race and our NASCAR team with Joe Gibbs, all at one venue during one weekend, will be a perfect marketing platform for us -- everyone needs batteries," chimed Miller. The Great Race will make a stop over in Dallas, Interstate Battery's headquarters on June 26, 2003.

Interstate Batteries was founded in 1952 and is based in Dallas, Texas. Over the years the company has experienced dramatic growth and today is the top selling replacement brand automotive battery in North America, selling about 12 million units annually.

Interstate Batteries has 317 distributors that service more than 200,000 accounts throughout the United States, Canada and select international locations. Customers can call 1-800-CRANK IT or visit www.interstatebatteries.com to find the nearest Interstate Batteries dealer.
