SUN CITY 400 AIMS FOR THREE IN A ROW

The Sun City 400, round five of the Absa Off Road Championship, will be aiming for a unique record at this year's race on July 24 and 25.

The race was voted event of the year in 2007 and 2008 and the organisers are aiming at a hat-trick. On top of being highly popular with competitors, the event provides sponsors and teams with ideal opportunities to entertain clients and sponsors.

The Sun City 400 is also spectator friendly and for enthusiasts is within easy reach of Gauteng and North West locations.

"We are putting the finishing touches to this year's race and are determined to bag a hat-trick of best event awards," said clerk of the course Adri Roets. "The route will again be varied and interesting and good rains will keep down the dust and make for some interesting river crossings.

"We have again had enormous co-operation from the Royal Bafokeng kingdom and they are starting to regard the event as their own."

Located on the mineral rich Merensky Reef, the Royal Bafokeng kingdom has abundant chrome reserves. The area also has the world's second largest platinum deposits.

Roets said the route would again take in bush veld, rocky sections and river crossings. He added the varied terrain would provide a stern test for crews.

"Crews will have to work hard, and they will earn their results," Roets said. "The prologue will be run over 70 kilometres and the race will be made up of two loops of 190 kilometres.

"Race headquarters, the start and finish and the designated service point will all be at Sun City."

Roets added that all spectator points would be within a 50 kilometre radius of race headquarters. The viewing points are easily accessible and provide for good action.

Sun City is internationally renowned as one of Africa's premier holiday resorts and offers a myriad of entertainment and relaxation activities.
