O'Hagan's / Kopanong Hotel to sponsor Mmabatho Off-Road event.

O'Hagan's and the Kopanong Hotel will jointly sponsor the Mmabatho 500, round four of the Bankfin Off-Road Championship, on July 26 and 27.

O'Hagan's chairman John Weir-Smith and Kopanong Hotel managing director Andre Botha this week confirmed backing for the event which will now be known as the O'Hagan's / Kopanong Hotel 500.

O'Hagan's and the Kopanong Hotel have already joined forces to run four Superteam cars in this year's Bankfin Off-Road Championship, with Weir-Smith and Tony George leading contenders in class A and Richard Carolin and Geoff Minnitt campaigning in class S in the Special Vehicle category. Botha and Beans Heydenrych are set to make their class F debut later in the year and will be teamed with Paolo Piazza-Musso and Scott Abraham in the Jeep in the Production Vehicle category.

"We wanted to broaden the scope of our involvement in off-road racing, and sponsoring an event was the logical way to go," said Weir-Smith. 'There is also a synergy between running a team in the championship and being an event sponsor.

"By backing this event Andre and I felt that both our organisations were also giving something back to the sport, and we are looking forward to a highly successful event."

Organised by the Mafikeng Motor Club event headquarters will be at the Tusk Resort in Mmabatho. The prologue to decide start positions for the July 27 race will be held on July 26.
